A heavy sterling silver, or bowl. This stylish, clean and high quality tray or bowl can be accommodated by the most modern home. The tray features a scalloped edge. The plain aesthetic can lend itself for many uses throughout any home. It is wonderful size and will prove very useful. The make is superb, the likes of which cannot be found today either in design or quality. Being round it can be perfect to sit in the center of a home bar, or dining table. This, like its partner on the website are both of the same design, this simply has a bigher edge, and is slightly more of a bowl shape.
The tray is not simply stamped out, as is often the case. It is laboriously hand crafted from sheet metal. When observing closely one can see the small hammer marks into the metal that contribute to shaping each wonderful serving piece. It is also not flimsy, as is often the case. They are a beautiful weight and quality. Made in Peru during the middle of the last century, a country where, like many other parts of Latin America, there has been generational talent at hand working silver. A metal that has forever been admired.
The tray is marked on the base "Kohler sterling silver Amand Peru". Not much is known of Kohler, but many European silver-makers relocated to South America and set up workshops. Over the years we have been fortunate to handle a small number of exquisitely handmade pieces, such as this tray. These artisans brought a more European design aesthetic to South America and were able to work with a handful of exceptionally skilled artisans locally to create wonderful metal works of art, such as this.
The tray is presented in perfect condition. It has been acquired privately from a couple who spent twenty five years living and working in Peru and were acquired from one of the finest silversmiths in Lima in the 1960's. This bowl, along with the flatter version were accompanied by a set of shot cups, currently on sale on the website too.
Made in Peru, circa 1960's.
